In 2017 my friend Thomas Fluck and I, Benjamin Geibig, drank to much and we spoke about the movie Into the Wild. Since we both wanted to see canada, we decided to travel there.
In the next year we actually did that and we wanted to create a small website to blog about that trip. After planning a bit the ideas for the page grew and we wanted to make it usable for our friends as well and after some brainstorming I started some programming on my NAS as the server.
I was working as a programmer that time already but only knew COBOL and Java and had only very basic knowledge of HTML and Javascript. So I learned all the necessary stuff while doing it and after a few weeks a first prototype was up and running.
We the thought about a name and while discussing some ideas we checked whether or not the domain is still available. At the end of the day we came out with Picdition which is a combination of Picture and Expedition.
I worked hard to get a more or less proper working version running in time for our trip to canada and even fixed some bugs while traveling through canada. The version I then shared with a few close friends already ran on an external hoster to assure a better experience but was far from being done.
Today there is still a whole lot of work to do and features to implement, but page is getting better every day and we hope you will enjoy the page and share your own trips with the world.
